A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER

A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER OF INTERCESSION

“ ..., but Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, "Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Gen.18:22-23). Right after being informed by God on the gravity of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the risk of God’s imminent judgment against them, Abraham started a vital intercession prayer on behalf of the inhabitants of those two sister cities; trusting in the Lord’s righteousness, he introduced: “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?”

A merciful and righteous God
First of all, Abraham addressed to God in the acknowledgment of who He is, a compassionate, merciful, loving-kindness God, who will never punish the innocent instead of the guilty, never condemn the righteous with the wicked. Confident in the Lord’s goodness, Abraham, with a heart full of love, sustained his plead from fifty to ten possible righteous among the inhabitants for which God would not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. (Gen.18:16-33).

Pleading on their behalf
It is touching to see that while the men, women, people of the cities continue to live their lives as they please, carelessly driving themselves to destruction, do not even think about God, somebody far away is pleading on their behalf, fighting for their survival, for their rescue; they do not know anything about it.

Someone is praying for you
What a wonderful thing to know that someone somewhere is praying for you and for me right now, carrying our burden to the Lord in our place, particularly at a moment of great need. Yes, it is good to learn that we have not been alone in the battle. Do you want to pray for someone else or start to do it now if you did not use to? What a great difference that will make! May the Lord help you as you do so. Amen!
